Doug Hilemn, President, has earned his Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification as an Accredited Professional from the US Green Building Council. This certification indicates a thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Rating System.

Emerald was proud to be a Corporate Sponsor for the 6th Annual American Family Fitness 5K/10K Walk/Run. All proceeds benefit the Children's Hospital of Richmond.

The Fisher House was formally dedicated upon completion. Keynote speakers included The Honorable James B. Peake, Secretary, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and Mr. Kenneth Fisher, Chairman and CEO, Fisher House Foundation. Music was provided by the US Army Reserve Band, Fort Knox, KY. Attendees included veterans, physicians and staff from the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and the many contributors who made this project possible. Guests use the facility, designed to be a cost free "home away from home" for families of veterans receiving treatment for injury or illness, for 3 to 30 days at a time. The Lucky Strike Maintenance Garage project was nominated for the "2008 Stars Awards", presented by GRACRE (Greater Richmond Association for Commercial Real Estate). The catagory: Best Historical Renovation Project. The project involved renovating a historic vehicle maintenance facility used by Lucky Strike Tobacco beginning in the early 1900's and abandoned in the '80's. Many features original to the building were used in the renovation, maintaining the historical integrity of the facility.

The dedication of the new John G. Wood School, located on the campus of the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls, was held upon the project's completion. Gib DeShazo and Doug Hilemn, Owners of Emerald Construction, were invited to be part of the Ribbon-Cutting Team. During the dedication, Emerald was thanked for providing quality construction on the project, and for our dedication to meeting the Virginia Homes' needs.

Jim Bean, Mike Gregory and Doug Hilemn have been certified as Tilt-Up Technicians by the American Concrete Institute and the Tilt-Up Concrete Association. This certification is awarded to individuals who exhibit an understanding of the principals of tilt-up concrete panel construction, project-specific requirements, and a commitment to quality and safety.

Gib Deshazo, Co-Owner/Vice President has been awarded the Certification for Healthcare Construction by the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association.
The certication indicates a level of healthcare construction experience along with an awareness, knowledge and understanding of the healthcare construction environment. Current repeat healthcare clients include Johnston-Willis Medical Center and MCV VCU Healthsystems.

Doug Hilemn and Gib DeShazo are pleased to announce the merger of Hilemn DeShazo Construction with Emerald Construction Company. Hilemn DeShazo's acquisition of Emerald Construction Company became effective January 6, 2006. Doug and Gib will continue offering the same quality projects and relationships for which both Hilemn DeShazo and Emerald are known.
